Creative Counselling
For Adults
Sometimes, finding the words is the hardest part.
You know something doesn’t feel quite right.
Maybe you’re overwhelmed, stuck in your own head or feeling a little lost.
Maybe you’ve spent so long looking after everyone else that you’re not even sure what you need anymore.
Or maybe somebody asks how you’re feeling and, despite the 4,782 thoughts currently running through your head, the only words that come out are...
“I’m fine.”
You don’t need to have the right words here.
Creative counselling gives you a safe, gentle space to explore what’s going on in a way that works for you.

With words when they come.
Creatively when they don’t.

You don’t need to wait until everything falls apart.
Counselling isn’t only for when you’ve reached breaking point.
Sometimes there isn’t one huge thing you can point to.
You might just know that you don’t quite feel like you anymore.
Perhaps you’re:
-
Feeling anxious or overwhelmed
-
Struggling with confidence or self-esteem
-
Going through a change in your life
-
Finding relationships difficult
-
Feeling stuck, lost or disconnected
-
Carrying emotions you don’t fully understand
-
Constantly putting everybody else first
-
Finding it difficult to talk about something you’ve experienced
-
Wanting to understand yourself better
And sometimes?
You genuinely don’t know what’s wrong.
That’s okay too.
You don’t need to arrive with a diagnosis, a list or a beautifully prepared explanation.
You can simply start with:
“I don’t really know where to begin.”
We’ll begin there.
Counselling... but perhaps not how you imagine it.
If the thought of sitting opposite someone while they stare at you and wait for you to talk makes you want to run for the hills...
I get it.
My approach is person-centred, gentle and creative.
Yes, we can talk.
But talking isn’t the only way we communicate.
When it feels helpful, we can use things like:
Colour
Imagery
Objects
Writing
Creative Activities
To explore thoughts, feelings and experiences that might be difficult to explain out loud.
There’s no pressure to perform.
No expectation that you tell me everything immediately.
And absolutely no need to find the “perfect” way of explaining how you feel.
This Is Your Space
We’ll work at your pace and find the approach that feels comfortable and useful for you.
“But Sam... I’m not creative.”
Good. You don’t need to be. 😂
Let’s get this one out of the way.
Creative counselling is NOT an art class.
You don’t need to be able to draw.
You don’t need to know anything about art.
And nobody is going to analyse your wonky stick person and decide it represents your childhood. Promise.
Creativity is simply another tool available to us.

Sometimes putting something onto paper, choosing an image, working with an object or using colour can help us explore something that feels impossible to put into a sentence.
Some sessions might involve lots of creativity.
Some might involve lots of talking.
Some might involve a bit of both.
There is no right way to do counselling.

What Could Creative Counselling Help With?
Creative counselling may support you with:
Anxiety & overwhelm
When your head feels full and switching off feels impossible.
Confidence & self-esteem
Exploring how you see yourself and the stories you’ve learned to believe.
Stress & burnout
When you’ve been keeping everything going for everyone else for a little too long.
Life changes
Relationships, family, work, loss, identity or simply finding yourself in a season you didn’t expect.
Difficult emotions
Making space for feelings that are confusing, uncomfortable or hard to explain.
Feeling stuck or lost
When you know something needs to change but you’re not quite sure what.
Relationships
Understanding patterns, boundaries, needs and the way you connect with others.
Understanding yourself
Getting curious about who you are underneath all the roles, responsibilities and expectations.
And sometimes there doesn’t need to be a neat little label for it.
You might simply want somewhere that is yours.

You are allowed to have a space that's just for you.
